Nanna's cupboard

Well I was sitting here trying to think of what to write tonight... When a photo of my Nan's cupboard came to mind... I love collecting old painted furniture and lucky for me I have a few lovely pieces that came from my Nan's house. This piece resided in her tiny little kitchen of her 3 bedroom house... She raised 7 children there and I must say it always smelt of wonderful baking.. She used to make a loaf filled with currants and she would skim the cream off the top of the milk after milking the cows to make it moist and yummy... Straight out of the oven she would brush it with milk and sprinkle it with sugar... I sometimes have people over and they ask when are you going to buy some new furniture but they don't understand that not only are these pieces beautiful but they have a history that I want to preserve and carry forward...

oh, my dear Cathy,
what a lovely tribute to your Nanna. She would be pleased.
I have loved that cupboard since you first sent pictures of it, What a lovely picture this is...and of course the angel who watches over it.
You are my kindred heart! I can't wait to come & have tea on the verandah with you and hopefully some of your Nanna's wonderful currant loaf frosted with fresh cream and sprinkled with sugar...one day we will.
sending love,
Christe'

What a beautiful piece of furniture Cathy, and so full of history and memories. I come from a family that does not keep things (although they are adorable in many other ways)and the only family heirlooms I have are those that I rescued from my mum minutes before they disappeared from the family forever. You are so lucky. I would rather have something like your cupboard with all its associations and stories than a new piece of furniture any day!

I have just discovered your blog and have to say that I absolutely love your style. I love all things with history attached whether chippy or not. They have so much character. I will certainly be dropping by to see what you are up to next.
